The South Carolina Optimist District has chosen to partner with The Children’s Security Blanket of Spartanburg, SC. This club, called the Children’s Cancer Optimist Club of South Carolina will be the first of its kind, with members statewide wide, an internet club, meeting on-line monthly and face-to-face quarterly at Optimist District meetings. Their goal as Optimists will be to become “media advocates” for The Children’s Security Blanket, spreading the word in every county and city in South Carolina that there is hope and support for families in need.
Optimist Clubs are known throughout the world for ‘Bringing Out the Best in Kids.’ Since each Club is autonomous, Optimist volunteers decide how to serve the needs of the children in their community. In some areas, Clubs conduct scholarship programs, sports activities, mentoring programs, after-school programs, and childhood cancer initiatives. Here the single focus is on supporting families facing the issues created by their children having cancer.
